IPOH: Kindergarten teacher M.Indira Gandhi who fought the unilateral conversion of her children to Islam has hit the campaign trail.
Indira is campaigning for DAP's incumbent Ipoh Barat parliamentarian who fought her case all the way to the Federal Court and succeeded.
At a ceramah in Buntong last night, she praised Kulasegaran for his dedication in fighting her case.
"He is the hero who gave us a second life, for me and my kids.
"We are very proud of Pakatan Harapan who assisted us in many ways, including financially and for my children's education.
"I am not a political speaker please bear with me ... Kulasegaran was the only lawyer to take up the case.
"Please vote for him who can help us," she added.
Speaking to reporters later, Indira said she wished there would be more people like Kulasegaran.
"There must be many more Kulasegarans to help people like us.
"I went through a long process of court hearings," she said of her legal battle.
In January, the Federal Court in a landmark ruling, set aside the unilateral conversion of Indira's three children to Islam after ruling that any conversion of non-Muslim children must get the consent of both parents.
The court's ruling put an end to the interfaith custody battle that followed after Indira's ex-husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah converted their three children without her knowledge in 2009.
Another speaker at the event was former Bersih chairman Datuk S. Ambiga.
Ambiga said the polls would see a Malaysian tsunami, not a Malay tsunami.
She also advised voters to check their details on the Election Commission's website and bring it along to the polling centre.
