MELBOURNE: Malaysians are set to gather once again at a hotel here to follow the results of the general election back home.
Big screens will be set up at the Seasons Botanic Gardens Hotel in St Kilda Road (opposite the Shrine of Remembrance), where up-to-date results of the 14th General Election (GE14) will be streamed from 7pm (5pm in Malaysia) on May 9.
At the last general election, in 2013, the Malaysian-owned hotel was asked to cater for 40 people, but more than 500 turned up.
"It was a fantastic night,'' prominent Melbourne lawyer Chuen Lim, from Leem Lawyers, Southbank here, told Bernama.
"We had supporters from most parties in Malaysia. It was a peaceful and engrossing event.''
Teluk Intan-born Lim said that as GE14 was being held mid-week, he was not sure how many Malaysians would turn up on Wednesday night but expectations were high.
Those who come will be charged A$12 (about RM35) a person for conference room/equipment hire and food – curry puffs and nasi lemak. — Bernama
