Nancy wants to boost tourism sector in Batang Sadong

SADONG JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri for the Batang Sadong parliamentary seat wants to boost the tourism sector in the constituency which has huge potentials in the offing
Nancy, who is defending her seat in the 14th General Election (GE14), said the tourism sector, particularly involving homestay operators in several villages in Sadong Jaya had their own uniqueness as this offered accommodation as well as introduce the culture and arts of the locals.
Citing an example, Nancy said a homestay in Kampung Iboi Ulu here provided the experience of staying in a Bugis traditional house,
"Among the uniqueness of Sadong Jaya is that the visitors can experience the culture and arts of the locals," she told Bernama here.
Sadong Jaya, which is located about 75km from Kuching, has 14 homestays that are registered with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
Suraya Homestay operator, Suraya Lariwoo, 45, said the homestay that she runs with her husband Ismail Sadak, 46, is unique and visitors would have the opportunity to stay in the 48-year-old traditional Bugis house made from timber.
In addition to the experience of staying in a homestay, those visiting Sadong Jaya can also see a variety of other attractions such as parang and top making demonstration, Iban longhouses and fireflies. — Bernama
