PETALING JAYA: Umno has sacked two of its former members, while another is currently under investigation, according to party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today.
The memberships of Tun Daim Zainuddin and Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz have been revoked for colluding with the opposition, while Tan Sri Rais Yatim is under investigation.
"Yesterday, letters were prepared, I signed and sent them. They themselves knew and they probably wanted us to drop them as members," said Tengku Adnan when met at Putrajaya today during early voting.
He stressed that the sacking was in line with Umno's constitution.
"When she (Rafidah) is on stage with the opposition party, I automatically sent the letter for her to be sacked as Umno member, it is the same for Tun Daim," he said.
He added that he had carefully looked into the matter before reaching this decision.
"I explained to them that I had looked into the matter and did not go on gossip and hearsay. We only sent them the letters after we received the full picture," he said.
He said the trio should have known that their actions would lead to their sacking.
"Probably, they wanted us to drop them as members so that they can resort to saying all kinds of things against Umno.
"However, remember that without Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), they and the nation would not be what they are today. Do not be ungrateful," he said.
"In the past they were with us, we all supported them, they had their share of problems in the past as well. Today they have left us and are pointing fingers. This is inappropriate and not fair," he added.
