GEORGE TOWN: Caretaker Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has reminded voters of his pledge to abolish the Anti-Fake News law if Pakatan Harapan (PH) comes into power.
He said victims of fake-news could seek recourse for defamation through the courts.
He said that it was unfair for those found guilty under the Anti-Fake News Act to be fined up to RM500,000 or six years jail.
"They will be labelled as a criminal forever and that is not fair," Lim said, adding that even Barisan National's (BN) owned media publishes inaccurate reports.
Lim also lashed out at BN, saying its candidates did not even deserve to be the opposition as they opposed infrastructure projects like the proposed undersea tunnel and Light Rail Transit (LRT), which is supposed to connect the island to the mainland.
He urged voters to vote for PH at both parliament and state level so that PH could make the LRT a reality.
"BN has sabotaged all our infrastructure projects. Only when we change BN at Putrajaya, we can get these infrastructure projects back in Penang," he added.
Lim, the DUN candidate for Air Putih, was on a walkabout at the Air Itam market this morning together with his Yeoh Soon Hin (Paya Terubong), Joseph Ng Soon Siang (Air Itam) and Ramkarpal Singh (Bukit Gelugor ).
He distributed his election flyers today and thanked his wife Betty Chew for helping him to engage the voters of Air Putih in his absence.
"I hope the voters are able to understand as I have been travelling throughout the country campaigning for PH," Lim said.
