BAGAN DATUK: Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil will be appointed a Cabinet minister if the Barisan Nasional (BN) wins a two-thirds majority in the general election on May 9, according to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The caretaker Deputy Prime Minister said Shahrizat, who is not standing as an electoral candidate, could be appointed a senator, which would be a gift for her loyalty and for not sabotaging the party, despite not being selected to contest in the election.
"After GE14, I will recommend to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to appoint her," he said, when speaking at an event with the 'Jalinan Rakyat' machinery here. Ahmad Zahid's wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis also attended the event.
Meanwhile, Shahrizat said women in the country should play their role to ensure a major victory for the BN in the election.
Shahrizat said the BN manifesto promises were based on facts, unlike that of the opposition which manipulated the facts to make empty promises.
Commenting on the expulsion of Umno veterans Tun Daim Zainuddin and Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz for campaigning for the opposition, she said the party had made the right decision.
"Discipline in the party is an important matter. I notice that several leaders had switched to the other side in pursuit of their personal agendas.
"We regret that former Wanita Umno chief Rafidah is supporting the other side when she had always called for the party to be given preference," she added.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced earlier today that the party had sacked Daim and Rafidah and was investigating Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim for indiscipline. — Bernama
