LANGKAWI: A son of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has issued a challenge to a former ally, Anina Saadudin, to reveal where she acquired information that the former has amassed a wealth of up to RM170 billion and owns 488 companies.
Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir urged Anina to furnish evidence of such claims, saying anybody can simply make accusations.
He also explained that his contract with the national oil corporation Petronas was earned in a transparent way via his share in the petroleum-based Kencana Sapura Berhad company.
The deal occurred during the period when Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak was the prime minister, Mokhzani told journalists after a meet-the-people session at Kampung Tok Senik Resort here.
He also noted that Kencana was a public listed entity, hence all deals can be scrutinised through the company's annual reports.
Earlier, Anina in another event, claimed that Mahathir's children had all received special exemptions from government-linked companies and federal ministries when Mahathir was leading the country during his 22 years as premier.
She also singled out former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin's alleged ownership of a huge fund called the ICB Financial Group in 1994, which has grown to have networks in 13 countries.
Anina said Mahathir cannot close such allegations made about him and Daim by diverting it to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd issue.
