10,000 detonator fuses seized from teen off Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has detained a teenager in the waters off Lahad Datu in connection with his alleged attempt to smuggle 10,000 detonator fuses in a boat to Sibutu in the Philippines.
The 18-year-old suspect with no identification document was on board the vessel when it was intercepted by a team from the MAF's Joint Task Force 2 headquarters (ATB2) .
The detonator fuses found in 89 boxes were of the C Det Alfa type.
Initial investigations revealed the suspect's plan was to escape through the Southeast waters of Felda Sahabat here to reach the destination.
In a statement here today, ATB2 commander, Brigadier-General Zarondin Md Amin said the Royal Malaysian Navy's Baung Naval Rafts which were patrolling the area intercepted the boat in the 12.15pm incident.
He said the seized items, boat and the suspect were handed over to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in Lahad Datu for further action. — Bernama
