TELUK INTAN: The much awaited day for Teluk Intan constituents to vote for their preferred parliamentarian and state assemblymen is finally here.

Although polling only starts at 8am, some enthusiastic voters were seen forming beeline queues outside their respective polling station compounds as early as 7am.

Barisan Nasional's Teluk Intan parliamentarian candidate Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong and his wife Datin Seri Yeoh Pooi Hoon arrived at their polling station, SMK Sultan Abdul Aziz, at around 10.15am. Both of them were done casting their votes within half an hour.

Prior to leaving the polling station, Mah had spent some time greeting and shaking hands with several voters around him.

Some of the voters made full use of the opportunity to photographs with him while some wished him good luck in successfully defending his seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).

For this GE14, Mah is defending the parliamentary seat he had won via a by-election in May 2014 against Pakatan Harapan (PH)'s candidate Nga Kor Ming and PAS' Dr Ahmad Ramadzan Ahmad Daud.

It was reported previously that the Teluk Intan voters appear to be split between Mah and Nga as their preferred parliamentarian as the community claimed that both have good record in serving their respective community as parliamentarian.

Nga was the incumbent Taiping parliamentarian as well as Perak DAP chairman.

Meanwhile, when contacted PH's Pasir Bedamar candidate Terence Naidu Raja Naidu said that he had paid a visit to most of the polling stations and he is pretty much satisfied with the voters' turnout rate.

"This shows that the people are really concerned about the future of the next generation and the country," he said

Polling for the Teluk Intan parliament seat and the two state seats, Changkat Jong and Pasir Bedamar, within the constituency will close at 5pm in the evening.

There are some 35 polling stations available in 37 polling districts with a total of 126 polling channels in the Teluk Intan constituency.
