KLANG: The polling centre at the Kolej Vokasional Klang in Bayu Tinggi, here, is experiencing a tense situation after police deployed the Light Strike Force (LSF) to the area and called the people gathered there to disperse following an ongoing ruckus over the presence of alleged phantom voters.
According to the Klang Selatan district police chief Asst Comm Shamsul Ramly, the 11.15am incident occurred after a group of nine Sabahans comprising of six men and three women who were registered voters here had lined up to cast their votes.
"However, the group was barred from doing so by a PKR polling agent.
"Following discussions between Election Commission (EC) officials and Pakatan Harapan Klang parliament candidate Charles Santiago, the latter accepted the explanation that the group were legitimate voters in the constituency," he said.
However, when the group returned to line up and cast their votes, other voters in the line started protesting against the decision as well, prompting the group to lodge the nine police reports at the Pandamaran police station.
It is learnt that a Light Strike Force (LSF) unit had to be deployed and threatened to release tear gas after 100 to 200 PKR supporters began to behave aggressively following the appearance of the Sabahan group.
Tensions were raised further when rumours spread that a bus filled with phantom voters was about to come to the polling centre.
Pakatan Harapan Klang parliament candidate Charles Santiago who was at the scene has since diffused the situation and after negotiating with the police and the said crowd.
The case is being investigated under the Election Offences Act 1954.
