KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has said Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders will accept and respect the outcome of the 14th General Election (GE14).
He was leaving Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's residence at Bukit Tunku at about 1.55am today, when reporters chased him down to get his comments.
"Obviously we're gonna accept the will of the people but the (former) prime minister will be issuing a statement," Khairy said as he rushed to his car.
"Tomorrow we'll be having a press conference. Whatever it is, we need to respect the will of the people and we need to make sure the election result is respected and we move on."
Having faced a close fight in the Rembau parliamentary seat, which he has defended for two terms since 2008, Khairy won with a simple majority of 4,364 votes.
It was a three-cornered fight against PKR's Roseli Abdul Ghani (31,732) and PAS' Mustafa Dolah (6,028).
His victory came as a surprise to voters who questioned him on Twitter because his tweet had earlier hinted that he had lost the seat.
"The Malaysian people have spoken. Their voice is sacred (keramat). All the best, Malaysia and thanks to all voters who exercised their responsibility to the country," Khairy said in the tweet.
