MUAR: Any worries of a change in the Pagoh member of Parliament were quashed today after Pakatan Harapan (PH) deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin defended his seat with a comfortable 6,927 majority.
The PPBM president defeated his former Umno Pagoh right hand man Ismail Mohamed of Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS candidate Ahmad Nawfal Mahfodz.
Muhyiddin, Ismail and Ahmad Nawfal respectively obtained a total vote of 23,558, 16,631 and 2,483.
Prior to the polling day on May 9, there have been worries that Muhyiddin, who was sacked by Umno in June 2016, might lose his Pagoh seat with a high number of voters previously claiming they would prefer to vote for the party (BN) than for the candidate.
Muhyiddin has been a five-term Pagoh MP beginning 1995.
The former Umno man also won the Gambir state seat he contested, garnering 10,280 of the votes, with BN's M Asojan Muniyandy obtaining 7,192 votes and PAS' Mahfodz Mohamed 1,806.
