Palace confirms Mahathir won’t be sworn in today

PETALING JAYA: The swearing-in ceremony of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister will not be held today, Istana Negara has said.

When contacted, a spokesperson from the palace told theSun that the inauguration ceremony would not be today.

"I have no confirmation when it will be held, whether tomorrow or next week. Once we have any updates, we will notify the media," the spokesperson said.

It was reported earlier that the police had blocked the entrance to Istana Negara and informed members of the media that there would be a swearing-in this morning.

In the wee hours in the morning, a jubilant Mahathir told the nation that he would be sworn in as the prime minister by the Agong.
