Dr Ahmad Samsuri appointed new Terengganu MB

KUALA TERENGGANU: Rhu Rendang state assemblyman Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar today took his oath as the new Terengganu Mentri Besar.
He was sworn in before the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin in a Mentri Besar and State Government Executive Council Appointment ceremony at Istana Syarqiyyah, Chendering, near here at 9.06pm.
The appointment of Ahmad Samsuri as Terengganu Mentri Besar followed the success of PAS to form the state government after winning 22 of the 32 State Legislative Assembly seats in the 14th general election yesterday.
At the ceremony, Sultan Mizan also appointed 10 PAS assemblymen as members of the new State Executive Council.
At the ceremony, the 10 assemblymen also took their oath as members of the council.
They are the assemblymen for Paka, Saiful Bahari Mamat, Dr Alias Razak of Bukit Tunggal, Mohd Nor Hamzah of Bukit Payung, Dr Azman Ibrahim of Jabi, Datuk Tengku Hassan Tengku Omar of Ladang, Ariffin Deraman of Alur Limbat, Hanafiah Mat of Chukai, Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah of Wakaf Mempelam, Dr Mamad Puteh of Kuala Berang and Mohd Nurkhuzaini Ab Rahman of Kota Raja.
Also present at the ceremony were PAS president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, former Barisan Nasional Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman who is also the assemblyman for Seberang Takir, Jertih assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Pehimi Yusoff and Kuala Besut assemblyman, Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Rahman.
Ahmad Samsuri who was the political secretary of Hadi Awang and PAS central election director.
He was the former head of the aerospace department at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) after completing his studies in Leeds University, UK.
Later, he told reporters that the new PAS Terengganu government would be setting up a special committee to ensure its 20 manifesto pledges for the state were successfully implemented.
He said the allocation of the state executive duties would be made through 10 committees for smoother implementation.
"Apart from that, we will also study and review all mega projects carried out by the previous state government.
"All mega projects would be studied including its impact and cost to ensure they do not burden the government but give positive economic impact to the people," he said.
"We will also continue with the various forms of assistance to the people and at the same time find new ways for other forms of assistance to help those left out earlier," Ahmad Samsuri added. — Bernama
