GEORGE TOWN: The crippling defeat of Barisan Nasional (BN) to Pakatan Harapan (PH) was due to issues which had affected the people, according to Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong.
Speaking to theSun following his defeat to PKR's Saifuddin Nasution in Pulau Jerejak, he said the majority of voters had decided to reject the BN coalition.
Oh, who said he accepted his defeat, said the party would persevere and conduct a post-mortem to rectify its mistakes.
Despite the party suffering its worst ever defeat, Oh said Gerakan had many capable young leaders. Specifically, Jason Loo, Peggie Koo, Ooi Zhi Yi and H'ng Chee Wey would lead Gerakan into the future.
State BN and Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow had said he would quit the party following their poor showing in the 14th General Election (GE14).
The PH coalition swept to victory in GE14 and won a landslide victory in Penang with 37 state seats and 12 parliament seats.
