KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Tan Sri Musa Aman last night took the oath of office as Chief Minister and at the same time formed a new collaborative government with Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star).
Musa, who is also the Sabah Umno Liaison Head, took the oath as Chief Minister before the Yang Dipertua Negri, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at Istana Negri here at 11.08pm last night.
He also signed the instrument of appointment witnessed by Sabah and Sarawak Chief Judge Tan Sri Richard Malanjum.
Ten others took their oaths of office as members of the Sabah Cabinet ministers, including Star president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who is also Tambunan State Assemblyman (Adun) and Keningau Member of Parliament, as the deputy chief minister.
Also sworn in were Karanaan Adun Datuk Masidi Manjun and Sulaman Adun Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor who were both retained as full ministers, while Tamparuli Adun Datuk Jahid Jahim, who was previously Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports before being defeated in the 2013 general election, was appointed as full minister.
Meanwhile six others who were previously assistant ministers were appointed full ministers namely Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin, Datuk Bolkiah Ismail, Datuk Bobbey Ahfang Suan, Datuk Masiung Banah, Datuk Musbah Jamli and a woman minister Datuk Anita Baranting.
They were sworn in after BN and the Star party collaborated to reach a simple majority, that is, 31 seats which enabled the formation of a government.
After the 14th General Election on Wednesday, BN obtained 29 state seats but could not form the government as it failed to achieve a simple majority.
However, with the BN collaboration (29 seats) with Parti Star, which obtained two seats, BN was eligible to form the government. — Bernama
