ALOR STAR: There is speculation that three Umno representatives who won state seats in Kedah might pledge allegiance to Pakatan Harapan (PH).
A PH source has confirmed that overtures were made to Datuk Suraya Yaacob (Sungai Tiang), Datuk Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Hashim (Guar Chempedak) and Datuk Norsabrina Mohd Noor (Kulim).
They had previously served as state excos under Barisan Nasional (BN).
PH had reached out to them in the hopes of breaking the deadlock over the hung state assembly, where Pakatan has 18 seats, PAS has 15 and BN has 3.
It is now learnt that the three are receptive to the possibility of supporting PH, but they have chosen to remain mum over the matter for now.
Later today, a representative from PH is expected to be sworn in as the new mentri besar before the Sultan of Kedah, Tunku Sallehuddin Almarhum Sultan Badlishah here.
Among the candidates touted for the top post are former senior state executive councillor Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah, a former engineer with the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada), who won the Anak Bukit state seat.
Amiruddin is also the deputy chairman of Kedah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
The other candidate is Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, but there is speculation that the son of premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad may be selected for a cabinet position.
Both Mukhriz and Amiruddin could not be reached for comment.
