GEORGE TOWN: The candidate for the post of chief minister will only be finalised after the federal administration announces its new cabinet line-up.
State DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the state government will make an announcement once Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad finalises his new cabinet line-up.
Chow is widely expected to succeed DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to the state's top post.
There is a possibility that Lim might take on a federal role in Mahathir's administration. Lim himself had previously endorsed Chow as his successor.
Chow told theSun that the swearing-in ceremony for the new chief minister would likely be held on Monday.
Meanwhile, state secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus said the date for the swearing-in ceremony had yet to be decided, but said invitations to the media would be sent out on Saturday.
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition swept to victory in the 14th General Election and won a landslide victory in Penang with 37 state seats and 12 parliament seats.
Following PH's dominant victory in the state, Penang Barisan Nasional chairman Teng Chang Yeow announced his decision to retire from politics.
