KUALA LUMPUR: The documentation process for the release of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to take less than a week, according to the party's president, Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Wan Azizah, who is also Anwar's wife, said the process needed to go through several stages and would be expedited.
She also said the most important thing at the moment was to obtain a full pardon from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, to allow Anwar to fully participate in politics.
"I have met him (Anwar) at the Rehabilitation Hospital in Cheras and he was very happy with PH's landslide victory. He has also been following the latest development on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (including the latter's) swearing in as the seventh Prime Minister.
"I will also study the prison rules and who has the authority to release Anwar. (In fact,) the Yang di-Pertuan Agong himself told me that he wanted to give immediate pardon, and that has been his own wish," she said when met at the hospital, here today.
Meanwhile, on the new cabinet line-up, Wan Azizah said: "There are quite a number of things to do for the country's administration ... the new cabinet list will be announced tomorrow."
Seeking the release of and pardon for Anwar was one of the promises in the Pakatan Harapan election manifesto.
Anwar is serving a five-year jail term in the Sungai Buloh prison following a conviction for sodomising a former aide.
