KUALA LUMPUR: Umno celebrated its 72nd anniversary at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) last night in a rather sombre mood.
This was the first official event for the party after Barisan Nasional (BN), which ruled the country for 60 years, lost to Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election (GE14) on Wednesday.
Also present were Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak; his deputy, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
Najib, however, neither delivered any speech nor entertained questions from members of the press, who were following him throughout the event.
The former prime minister was spotted entering a surau at the PWTC before he used the dedicated lane to the upper floors of Menara Datuk Onn after the dinner.
It was learnt that Najib also held a closed door meeting with top Umno leaders tonight. — Bernama
