Umno did not anticipate the tsunami

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Umno said the party had failed to anticipate the "people tsunami" which swept the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition into power.
State Youth chief Rafizal Abd Rahim said despite the defeat at the polls, he was committed to serving and rebranding the party
"Let us rebrand and rejuvenate the party. Internal reform is a must now and we will definitely make a comeback after this," he said when contacted.
He however stopped short of calling for the resignation of Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
"Let him announce himself," he said following speculation that Najib might make an announcement at the party's 72nd anniversary celebrations tonight.
He also agreed that Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is the right person to undertake the task of reforming the party.
In a statement earlier, Khairy called on Umno members to change in ways they have never imagined before to rebuild the party.
The Rembau MP called for painful sacrifices to be made to make Umno great again.
"What we need today are honesty, courage, and painful sacrifices," he said.
