Mohamad Nordin is new Jakim D-G

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) deputy director-general (Policy) Datuk Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim has been appointed as the department's new director-general effective May 17.
He will replace Tan Sri Othman Mustapha, whose contract ends on May 16.
Mohamad Nordin, 58, received his education at the Klang Islamic College in Selangor before pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Islamic Studies (Usuluddin) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1982 and a Master's Degree in Islamic Civilisation at the same university in 2000.
He had also pursued the Leadership Programme at Oxford University in the United Kingdom in 2013.
He began his career in the public service when appointed as Islamic Affairs Officer on Jan 31, 1984.
In a statement today, Othman said Mohamad Nordin had vast experience in Islamic affairs management, thanks to his 34 years of service.
"With his credibility, knowledge and extensive experience in Islamic affairs management in Malaysia, plus the high level of integrity that he possesses, I believe he is capable of pursuing the mission and vision of Jakim to continue providing best service to the people," he said.
Othman also expressed his appreciation to the government for trusting him to hold the post over the past seven-odd years. — Bernama
