PORT DICKSON: The 2018 Earth Day celebration in Negri Sembilan will introduce "plogging" (jogging while picking up trash) and Beach Beautification programme as the main agenda for this year.
State Environment Department director Norhazni Mat Sari said the celebration was in line with DOE's aim to particularly protect the cleanliness of its beaches and promote environmental awareness.
"For this year, plogging will be carried out along the beach of Bagan Pinang, focussing on collecting plastic waste that is non-biodegradable. It poses a threat to the environment and aquatic animals which mistakenly swallow it for food," she told Bernama today after launching the state-level Earth Day celebration here today which was also attended by Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) director, Zainal Fitri Ahmad.
The programme which attracted the participation of 100 Seremban 3 Universiti Teknologi Mara students and members of the public also included activities such as equipment demonstration and sampling of marine water. — Bernama
