JOHOR BARU: Kempas state assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian was today sworn in as the 16th Mentri Besar of Johor at Istana Bukit Serene.
The 67-year-old secretary of Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) took his oath of office before Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, at the palace's Balai Mengadap.
Present at the ceremony were Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim and the husband of Tunku Puteri of Johor Tunku Tun Aminah, Dennis Muhammad Abdullah.
Also present were Johor PKR chairman Hassan Karim and Johor Amanah president Aminolhuda Hassan.
Osman replaces Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin from Barisan Nasional (BN) as the state's new mentri besar.
PH obtained the mandate to form the state government after winning 36 state seats in Johor in the 14th General Election (GE14), while BN garnered 19 seats and PAS one seat.
Osman, who faced BN candidate Datuk Ramlee Bohani and PAS candidate Dzulkifli Suleiman in a three-cornered fight, wrested the Kempas seat with a majority of 9,178 votes.
He was the incumbent for the Kempas seat under BN for three terms from 1999 until 2013 before being dropped in the 2013 general election.
At a press conference following the swearing-in ceremony, Osman said he would now work on finalising the state exco line-up, promising that they will be sworn in on May 15.
