PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad tendered his resignation today, less than two years after being appointed to the position in 2016.
It is learnt that he submitted his resignation letter to Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa this morning. An MACC official confirmed Dzulkifli has stepped down.
The reason behind his resignation is yet to be known but the MACC was named as one of the agencies that will be placed under scrutiny by the leadership of the new Pakatan Harapan-led government.
Dzulkifli, a former deputy public prosecutor, was appointed to helm the MACC on Aug 1, 2016, after former MACC chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed retired.
Dzulkifli was embroiled in a scandal last year when photos allegedly of him and a married woman in Bali went viral on social media. Police reports were lodged and an investigation for "enticing a married woman" was initiated.
Two submissions of the probe papers were made by police to the Attorney-General's Chambers but were returned to police for further investigations.
