KLANG: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed his disappointment over the fractions among the Malays which was caused by politics.
In his first address after the conclusion of 14th General Election (GE14), the Sultan stated his confidence that the triumphant political parties in the elections had received the support of the Selangor people.
Sultan Sharafuddin however reminded the elected state representatives to forget whatever that had happened during elections campaign and to unite and cooperate to develop the state.
The Sultan cited a Malay proverb "buang yang keruh ambil yang jernih" (to rid of the negative aspects) as an advice to the group.
"I am very disappointed to see that the Malays have broken apart due to differing political views," he said.
"I sincerely pray to Allah for the Malay Muslims to be able to be reunited for the religion, race and country," he said in an address at the swearing-in ceremony of Selangor executive councillor members at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah here.
The recently concluded GE14 saw PH consolidated more grip in Selangor, winning 51 out of 56 state seats available.
The election outcome also saw PAS, who had previously formed a coalition government with PH in Selangor, nearly being wiped out from the state's politics.
In his advice to the elected state assemblymen, Sultan Sharafuddin reminded them to keep the promises they had made to their constituents and to hold to their responsibilities.
The Sultan also reminded them to stay away from corruption as it could detriment the image of Selangor.
"The rakyat also despise leaders that are involved in corruption," the Sultan said.
Sultan Sharafuddin gave his assurance to the public that the palace would not interfere with the state government administration as long as state affairs went on smoothly.
The Ruler said he would only exercise his discretionary power to advise the state government in correcting the administration.
