GEORGE TOWN: Ramkarpal Singh (pix), the Member of Parliament for Bukit Gelugor has called for the immediate resignation of Mohamed Apandi Ali as the Attorney-General (AG) because many cases under his watch such as the 1MDB (financial fund) probe went unresolved.
Such cases will be reopened under the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
"Apandi cannot remain the AG having previously cleared former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak of the 1MDB scandal as he would be in a position of conflict in the event.
"The murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu must also be reopened and Apandi cannot remain as AG as he was one of the judges in the Court of Appeal who acquitted the two officers who were eventually found guilty of the said murder," he said, adding that only a new AG would be in a position to reopen investigations.
He also said that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad could appoint a new AG through the Yang di-Pertuan Agong pursuant to Article 145(1) of the Federal Constitution.
It is crucial for a new AG to be appointed immediately to facilitate the necessary reforms under the new PH government.
Apandi must go as he has clearly overstayed his welcome.
