Dr Subramaniam to stay out of MIC polls

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC President, Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam has announced that he will be staying off the party polls that will be held this October.
This follows MIC's devastating defeat in the 14th General Elections (GE14) where the party only won two out of nine parliament seats it contested.
"I will not contest but I hope in this party election, more (members of ) younger generation will participate in the party," he told a press conference here, today.
MIC will also conduct a post-mortem on the GE14 results to study its weaknesses and re-look ways to stay relevant for the Indian community, he said.
"We need to ensure that we survive in the next four years as we have never been an opposition before. We will also review our position in Barisan Nasional (BN)," the former Health Minister said.
Regarding the Malaysian Indian Blueprint introduced by the previous BN-led government, Dr Subramaniam said he was leaving it to the current government whether to implement it or not. — Bernama
