KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has exhausted all investigations related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and will only reopen cases if it receives new evidence.
Governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim said the central bank had previously taken all actions that it could under the law and recommended actions outside its jurisdiction to the respective agencies.
"If there is new information or data that we have not seen before, we will certainly look at it," he said, when asked if BNM would reopen investigation into 1MDB.
Speaking to reporters at a briefing today, Muhammad said BNM is confident that it would be able to obtain more information with more transparency under the new government.
On the changes in the Goods and Services Tax, he said there will be an impact on inflation but it is too early to calculate the extent of the impact at the moment.
Muhammad said the inflation rate will be revised if necessary and that it is important to ensure that businesses pass on the benefits to consumers.
