Female traffic police officer remanded over bribery case

KLANG: The Magistrate's Court here ordered a female traffic police inspector to be remanded for five days beginning today to facilitate investigation into a case of soliciting a RM2,000 bribe three days ago.
Magistrate Nik Nur Amalina Mat Zaidan allowed the application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to remand the 28-year-old woman and carry out an investigation under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
The suspect, who is attached to the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division at the Klang Selatan District Police headquarters, was detained by the MACC at 4.05pm yesterday.
According to an MACC source, the officer was arrested following a report by a 35-year-old man who claimed that the woman had sought a bribe from him as an inducement not to impound his sports utility vehicle which had an expired road tax.
The man claimed that the officer had asked for money from him at 11.45pm last Monday and he lodged the report with the MACC yesterday. — Bernama
