New Penang CM attends first official function
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow attended his first official event after being sworn in on Monday when he bid farewell to the outgoing Consul-General of the People's Republic of China His Excellency Wu Jun at the Equatorial Hotel here last night.
He thanked Wu for his contributions to the state, especially in bringing China's investments to Penang and also for his efforts to improve the bilateral relations between Malaysia and China.

"Wu was instrumental in bringing the investment valued at US$100 million by Jinko Solar and US$120 million by JA Solar.
"Chinese tourists arrival has increased tremendously contributing to the eight percent increase or 7.2 million passengers coming through the Penang International Airport last year.
"Penang also forged a twin-city status with Xiamen," said Chow.
He said the Bank of China has also opened its operations in George Town.
More than 350 people including community leaders, entrepreneurs, politicians, and representatives from various consulates in Penang attended the event.
Wu had served in Penang and the Northern region since 2015.
Among the highlights of his tenure includes the visit of several Chinese warships to Penang in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Dr Sun Yat Sen ( Father of Moden China), economic and cultural exchange programs.
"Even though I will be away, my thoughts will always be with Malaysia and Malaysia-China relations," Wu said when offering a toast to the everlasting friendship between China and Malaysia.
