KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested a 30-year-old man and his 23-year-old woman companion and seized 10.6 kg of syabu worth RM734,640 and RM155,000 cash in Penampang near here yesterday.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said that following police intelligence and investigation, the man was detained as he was driving a Toyota Fortuner vehicle in the vicinity of a condominium in Penampang at 11.15 am.
"A physical examination of the man showed up four transparent plastic packets suspected to contain syabu. The police then raided the suspect's house and found a large black plastic bag containing five silver-coloured plastic packets containing syabu.
"A pink luggage bag containing 105 transparent packets of various sizes containing syabu and 188 ecstasy pills were also found. The woman was also arrested there," he told reporters here today.
He said initial investigations revealed that the suspect admitted receiving instructions from a local syndicate to deliver the drugs to a certain area.
"We believe the syndicate has been active over the past few months and is suspected to have been trafficking drugs in the Penampang and Kota Kinabalu areas. We also believe the drugs were brought in from outside Sabah," he said.
Ramli said the two suspects tested negative for drugs but had no previous criminal record.
The suspects have been remanded for seven days from today to facilitate the investigation. — Bernama
