Company fined for failing to pay OT, public holiday wages

KUALA LUMPUR: The Magistrate's Court here today fined a security company RM3,600 in default 39 days jail for failing to pay four of its workers overtime and public holiday wages two years ago.
Magistrate Wong Chai Sia imposed the fined on Zainal Abidin Md Kasim, a representative of Shelter Security Services Sdn Bhd after he pleaded guilty to the charge on behalf of the company.
The company had failed to pay overtime as well as Labour Day and Aidilfitri wages to Siti Hapidah Jawaji, 60, Siti Aminah Lachemy Abdullah, 41, Nek Salleh A Rahman, 59 and Maskuri Shafie, 61.
The offence was committed at the premises of the company in Desa Pandan, here, between March 7 and Aug 7, 2016.
The charge, under Section 60D(3)(a) of the Employment Act 1955, punishable under Section 99A of the same Act, carries a fine of up to RM10,000 for each of the staff involved.
The prosecution was represented by the Labour Department prosecuting officer Haslynda Ab Razak while the company was unrepresented. — Bernama
