PETALING JAYA: Ride-hailing service provider Grab is willing to work with the new government in reviewing current legislation to ensure that all players in the industry can benefit equally.
Grab country head Sean Goh said that the country's current leadership's expression of commitment is in line with Grab's vision to help the community to grow.
"If you look at what the elders have been saying, I have observed a passion for making change and moving things forward and to be fair to the people.
"That is probably why many see a lot of hope in their leadership," he told reporters after presenting Grab's expansion in services to food delivery and financial services.
He acknowledged Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's call to review the Land Public Transport Act 2017 and the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 2017 to ensure that the rights of both e-hailing services and taxi drivers are protected as part of the many changes his coalition has promised.
"One of those changes is in looking into the taxi community. When you look at the taxi community, they have been operating on a different set of regulations.
"We see that commitment from our leaders wanting to be fair to them and to also look at the broader community. This is in line with what we think," Goh said.
Noting that Grab has invested in the community, he said Grab looks forward to the "positive changes" that the government will make.
Earlier in his presentation, Goh said Grab's direction in expansion of services into on-demand food delivery, logistics, cashless payments and financial services will help micro-entrepreneurs like its driver-partners, merchants, small and medium-sized enterprises to grow their businesses.
"We are in a position to power this future of smart cities for consumers, because of the interconnectedness of each of our services and how they help each other grow.
"We started with making transport more efficient, and now, we are introducing GrabFood and GrabPay as a mobile wallet to Malaysia soon," he said.
Goh said by building a technology platform that serves the daily essentials of consumers, Grab will benefit the ecosystem of connected users.
