PUTRAJAYA: Jia Zhong, the association of parents advocating Chinese language education, wants the government to investigate the possibility of embezzlement of funds in National Type Chinese Schools (SJKCs).
Jia Zhong advisor, Edward Neoh Chuan Tat, alleged misappropriation of funds in about 1,000 SJKCs and said more than 100 reports had been made to the Education Ministry since 2009.
However, he said, the only answer Jia Zhong had received was "action will be taken" but there had been no developments.
He said Jia Zhong hoped that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has been named the Education Minister, would look into the matter and help parents who allegedly have had to make payments, such as monthly fees of RM100 to RM200 to meet various students' needs, fees for tuition classes in the students' daily schedule and GST collection for computer classes.
"Please help the parents. Solve this once and for all," he told reporters outside the Perdana Leadership Foundation office here today after he and a group of parents handed over documents on the alleged embezzlement of funds in SJKCs to a representative of the Prime Minister's Office, Shaarani Abdul Rahman. — Bernama
