Police identify suspect in snatch theft case

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have identified the suspect involved in the attack of a waitress at an entertainment centre in a hotel in Bukit Tengah, here on May 8.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief assistant commissioner Nik Ros Azhan said they would make an arrest soon.
"We have narrowed down the suspect after going through the CCTV cameras and have identified him. We hope to act soon," he added.
In the 9.30pm incident, Chin Huey Keith, 23, was walking to the hotel car park when the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, snatched her handbag.
In the scuffle, he thrust a blade into the right cheek of the victim.
Chin was rushed to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital, treated for the injury and was discharged two days later after surgery to remove the blade.
Meanwhile in Butterworth, a 55-year-old factory operator was dragged a short distance when a thief snatched her handbag.
Tan Beng Lan, who had just returned from the market, suffered bruises on her left hand and leg in the incident.
She lost RM800 cash, ATM cards, a bank pass book, a set of keys and her mobile phone in the 10.15am incident at Lorong Sri Cemerlang, Jalan Mengkuang, here on Thursday.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said a neighbour's CCTV footage showed three men on two motorcycles approaching the victim.
He said police have started investigations and they have also viewed the CCTV footage to narrow down the identity of the suspects.
