Police thwart attempted jewel robbery at the Atria mall, kill two robbers

PETALING JAYA: Police shot and killed two robbers and arrested an additional four when they thwarted an attempted jewellery shop robbery at the Atria mall here today.
In the incident that happened at around 4.55pm, the six men arrived at the mall on motorcycles.
Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat Said police carried out their actions based on information they received from their operations centre.
"As soon as the police team from D9 arrived at the lobby of the mall, the situation was chaotic. After scouring the mall, they had found the robbers clad in jackets and wearing helmets with their visors on rushing out of the shop," he said.
According to Fadzil, the robbers then opened fire at the police during their escape attempt.
"In retaliation, the police team had to open fire on them, in the altercation, two men were shot and killed," he said.
Subsequently, police managed to suppress and arrest the other four robbers.
The D9 team also retrieved a semi automatic pistol, a revolver and an air gun from the robbers at the crime scene.
"The jewellery that was stolen by the robbers was managed to be recovered by the police," he said.
He added that investigations are currently underway and there are a few more suspects that are yet to be identified.
Instagram and Twitter was ablaze with videos and comments about the shooting, with many users sharing the videos of the altercation.
