Septuagenarian loses RM150,000 in 4D scam

KUANTAN: A septuagenarian lost RM150,000 after being deceived by a man over the sale of non-existent four-digit (4D) lottery ticket in Ringlet, Cameron Highlands recently.
Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mohd Wazir Yusof said the 79-year-old gardener had initially met the man, who claimed to be caretaker for a mosque, last April.
"The suspect told the victim that the latter might have luck with the lottery. The victim fell for that and gave the man RM20 to buy a 6D number, namely 049310," he told reporters here today.
Mohd Wazir said not too long after that, the man told the victim claiming that the number won a prize of RM2 million on April 2, 2018, and he (suspect) even had the receipt.
"The victim was also told that he must give RM150,000 first (to the suspect) if he wanted to claim the RM2 million prize," he added.
Mohd Wazir said subsequently, the victim handed over RM50,000 in cash to the suspect twice and RM30,000 at the Ringlet Court and Boh Plantation on April 9.
In addition, the victim had also deposited RM20,000 into a Hong Leong Bank account provided by the suspect on April 15, he said.
Mohd Wazir said the victim lodged a report at the Ringlet police station yesterday after the latter failed to contact the suspect.
The case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, he added. — Bernama
