10 shophouses gutted in early morning fire

ALOR SETAR: A row of 10 double-storey wooden shophouses near Sekolah Kebangsaan Wan Abdul Samad, Pokok Sena, was completely destroyed in a fire early this morning.
No casualty was reported.
Kuala Nerang Fire and Rescue Department chief Muhammad Nurul Iman Mohamad Rawi said 20 firemen and five fire engines were rushed to the scene after the department received an emergency call at 4.09am.
"The firemen arrived about 11 minutes later and quickly made an inspection to ensure that there was no one in the buildings," he said, adding that the team managed to put the blaze under control within 30 minutes.
The cause of the fire and losses are being investigated. — Bernama
