Najib needs to appear at MACC HQ: MACC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today refuted the statement by Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's lawyer, Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal, that MACC officers would go to the former prime minister's residence to record his statement.
Instead, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki stressed that Najib would have to be present at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Tuesday.
"The notice served on Najib yesterday had stated clearly that he is required to be present at MACC headquarters to have his statement recorded," Azam said in a statement today.
He said Najib had to appear to assist in MACC investigations into the SRC International case.
Harpal was today reported as saying that MACC was scheduled to take Najib's statement at 8am on Tuesday at his residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, here.
Yesterday, a team of MACC officers visited Najib at his residence to serve a notice on the Pekan MP to appear at MACC's headquarters to give his statement and assist investigations into the SRC International Sdn Bhd case on Tuesday.
SRC International was a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) before it was placed under the Ministry of Finance in 2012.
In Jan 26, 2016, the media reported that Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali had confirmed there was no criminal offence by Najib in relation to the case involving a RM2.6 billion donation and SRC International.
SRC International was accused of transferring millions of ringgit into the private accounts of Najib when he was prime minister. — Bernama
