GEORGE TOWN: Gender inclusiveness is the latest addition to the portfolio of state executive councillor, Chong Eng.
And it is meant to include men in women dominated fields such as nursing and preschool education.
"We hope to see more male nurses and male preschool teachers," she said at the Penang Women's Chamber of Commerce (PWCC) dinner gala.
Chong Eng had long spoken about getting men to work in areas seen by society as jobs either exclusively for men or women.
In time this would changed she opined.
PWCC organised the event to mark its first anniversary since its inception in February last year.
Its chairman, Annie Chin, said PWCC was formed to further the interests of working women or those in business.
"The mandate of PWCC is to be the collective voice of women, to increase not only visibility but actual participation of women in business and to be a determining force in trade and business policy-making," she said.
Present was new Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who said men are successful because they choose the right partner in life, attributing his own success to his wife, Tan Lean Kee.
"I am in the midst of the many successful women of substance and significance in the state who have contributed greatly towards the economic success in Penang," Chow said, referring to why he made it a point to attend the PWCC dinner.
