KUALA LUMPUR: The National Sports Council (MSN) has denied the statement of former gymnastics athlete Nur Eli Ellina Azmi who claimed that MSN had ignored her welfare as a national athlete.
MSN in a press statement today said there were no issues related to her complaints posted on Instagram's social site two days ago, as she was no longer in the national gymnastics training programme, under MSN at that time.
MSN explained that after the SEA Games, the national team selection process was conducted by MSN with the National Sports Association. At that time no athlete was in the MSN programme for two months, namely, September and October 2017.
The selection of the athlete to the subsequent MSN programme was based on eight criteria which agreed were agreed upon by the national sports associations for the purpose of preparing athletes towards the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Asia Games.
But Nur Eli Ellina was not selected by the Malaysian Gymnastics Association and her name was also not recommended by the association to the Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM) Selection Committee which convened on Oct 3, 2017.
"She has submitted a letter asking for the justifications and the selection criteria for the selection of female gymnasts to the Commonwealth Games 2018 on Dec 11, 2017.
"The MSN has explained in detail by letter to her dated Jan 10, 2018 and Nur Eli Ellina has acknowledged and subsequently decided to retire through a letter dated February 2," said a statement issued by the MSN Corporate Communications branch. — Bernama
