Police remand two men in robbery, drug cases
SEREMBAN: Two men have been remanded for five days, beginning today to facilitate investigations into alleged robbery and drug possession.
The duo, aged 21 and 22, were picked up at a sundry shop in Rantau and at the roadside of Jalan Rantau-Seremban, respectively, yesterday.
Seremban police chief, ASP Thiew Hock Poh, said one of the suspects had earlier gone into the premises and threatened the sundry shop operator, a foreigner, demanding RM1,000 from him.
"However, the operator chased him away. Subsequently, the suspect walked towards a white Toyota Camry car he had parked outside the premises and returned to the shop with a machete. The other suspect who had taken a box of matches and three lighters from the shop returned to the vehicle," he said, here today.
Alerted by the public, several policemen from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) arrived at the scene and nabbed a suspect while the other escaped in the car.
Thiew said the other suspect was picked up by URB policemen at a road-shoulder of Jalan Rantau-Seremban, near the Ulu Lalang People's Housing Project.
"From the suspects, the police seized two machetes, three bags, five mobile phones, drugs, lighters and the box of matches," he said, adding that the duo tested positive for methamphetamine.
In Johor Baru, Kluang acting police chief, DSP Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said police detained two men, aged 27 and 34, to facilitate investigations into vehicle thefts in the city and Kluang.
He said the police also seized a lorry, a Honda Accord, a light blue bag, ta runcheon, a cutter, a pair of gloves and other tools believed to have been used in the thefts.
The suspects were remanded for four days until Wednesday, while a suspected accomplice was being sought, added Abdul Razak here today.
In Kemaman, the police detained five men, aged between 25 and 41, during an anti-narcotics raid at a house in Kampung Mak Cili Paya here last Friday.
Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Said Ibrahim said the police seized various drugs during the raid, including 220 'yaba' (methamphetamine) pills, crystal chunks and powder believed to be syabu, as well as a plastic package containing chunks and powder of what was believed to be heroin.
The five suspects – four of whom tested positive for drugs – were remanded for seven days until Thursday, he told a press conference at the Kemaman police headquarters here today. — Bernama
