Political 'celebrities' creating a Malaysian storm

PETALING JAYA: Celebrities turned politicians is not something new – read Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Imran Khan, Donald "The Apprentice" Trump and others.
But politicians being treated like celebrities, having their own fan base, that is what we are now getting used to in Malaysia.
From the boy next door looks of Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to Gol and Gincu actor Fahmi Fadzil, to the ever alluring Hannah Yeoh and Nurul Izzah Anwar, and led by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, we have it all to make a remarkable movie.
With a combined average of one million followers on their Instagram page, these MPs are creating a storm in Malaysia.
Celebrity opinions and endorsements of political candidates has become commonplace in the media before and between elections. Many of them share their opinions with society in an attempt to influence the opinions of those who listen to them. But during the election, Pakatan Harapan knew they can't really get celebrity endorsements for obvious reasons, so maybe they sub-consciously turned their candidates into "celebrities".
In the last week, Malaysian politics and its "celebrities" have taught us some forgotten values of being a Malaysian.
The first one being forgiveness.
This act has been captured between the families and loved ones of PM Tun Mahathir and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to form allies and to work together after 20 years.
No Malaysian would have thought this would happen, and I mean no one.
Second value was the act of humility.
They have shown that It is easy to gain pride when one has everything but things can change in an instant, and it takes time for it to be done.
Third is never lose hope, which was exemplified by the tireless effort of the 93-year-old Mahathir.
Malaysian, we live on this value day in and out and we pursue our dream over and over, till one day life rewards us.
And the last one is righteousness, where Tun proved that justice will haunt those who have done wrong.
Will we continue to follow their good examples?
Only time will tell.
