KULIM: Police believe they have solved the 'attack and hack' robbery case at Taman Desa Aman on May 15 with the arrest of four men and a woman.
Kulim police chief Supt Ahmad Nasir Jaafar said the suspects, aged between 18 and 27, were all locals.
"All of the male suspects were from Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, while the female suspect was from Kuala Ketil, Kedah. They were picked up at Pengkalan Hulu, in Sungai Petani and Negri Sembilan on May 17.
"The arrests also put to rest allegations that the attacks were carried out by Myanmar nationals.
"We also believe that during the attack on 50-year-old Corporal Fauzi Nayan of the Labu Besar Police Station, the main suspect was under the influence of drugs," he told a press conference at the Kulim police headquarters here today.
Initial investigation also revealed that two of the suspects had previous criminals records related to drugs and possession of stolen goods. The suspects were remanded until May 24 to facilitate investigations.
Meanwhile, police seized a 50-cm long knife that was believed to have been used in the robbery, mobile phones, a sling bag and a Gen-2 car. — Bernama
