Jamal Yunos arrested under Firearms Act 1960 (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: Police arrested Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos today to facilitate investigations into photos allegedly depicting him displaying a firearm.
Police detained the 47-year-old at a private hospital along Jalan Memanda, Ampang at 1.15pm.
It is learnt that the arrest was made after a police report was lodged by a Kuala Langat Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) member on May 12.
Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor, who confirmed the arrest said Jamal is under detention in the same private hospital where he is currently receiving treatment
"He was arrested over an offence under Section 34 of the Firearms Act 1960," he said today.
Section 34 of the act stipulates that any person who is drunk, or who behaves in a disorderly manner, while carrying a firearm shall, on conviction, be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or to a fine not exceeding one thousand ringgit, or to both.
Mazlan added police are also investigating Jamal in connection with several other cases and two arrest warrants would be served on him as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.
Jamal, who is Sungai Besar Umno division chief, is best known for leading the "Red Shirts", organising counter protests to rallies by Bersih 2.0 as well as by Pakatan Harapan supporters.
