RM109m in cash, RM200m in luxury items from premises linked to Najib

PETALING JAYA: The amount of cash taken from premises linked to ousted prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak amounted to RM109 million, while luxury items seized were conservatively valued at RM200 million.
The cash in multiple denominations took police an ardous 12 hours to count. China Press today reported that the counting was done in two phases at the police Commercial Crime Investigation Department's office in Menara 238, Jalan Tun Razak.
The first phase on Monday involved 11 bags. Yesterday, officers spent 12 hours, starting from 8am, counting money from 16 other bags, it reported.
All the money was then placed in 15 boxes and transported to Bank Negara Malaysia, it added.
theSun earlier reported that the estimated value of the seizure of branded goods, cash, gems, luxury watches and other plush items in the police raids related to the probe on Najib is believed to exceed RM200 million.
Sources said wads of cash in local currency and foreign currency made up to more than a third of the estimated value.
It is learnt the tedious valuation of the large quantities of confiscated luxury goods – mainly hundreds of designer handbags, shoes and watches seized are expected to be made with the help of third-party evaluators called in by investigators from the police anti-money laundering unit.
It is learnt that an undisclosed number of the branded goods such as Birkin handbags that were bought years ago had appreciated in its value as much as twice or more of its purchase price.
