Streram files election petition for Rantau state seat

SEREMBAN: PKR candidate for the Rantau state seat Dr S. Streram today filed an election petition at the High Court here to declare the election of Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan as state assemblyman for the seat as null and void.
Streram, 63, filed the petition through his lawyers Sreekant M. G. Gangadharan Pillai, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali and Sathia Stella Sidhu at 3pm here.
In the general election, the Election Commission's Returning Officer Amino Agos Suyub announced at the nomination centre in Dewan Seri Rembau here that Barisan Nasional candidate Mohamad won the Rantau state seat unopposed.
Mohamad gained victory after Streram failed to submit his nomination papers as he did not have the EC pass to allow him to enter the nomination centre.
Besides Streram, his proposer and seconder were also not allowed into the hall as they did not have the EC passes.
The petition named Mohamad as the first respondent, Amino Agos the second respondent and the EC as the third respondent. — Bernama
