Aidilfitri ops to focus on express bus drivers: Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: The integrated road operations to be held in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration will focus on express bus drivers, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
Loke said he had directed the Road Transport Department (RTD) to intensify enforcement and conduct thorough checks on express bus drivers to ensure road safety is maintained.
"We do not want to have express bus drivers who have been blacklisted or involved in road traffic violations to be still allowed to drive. More integrated operations must be done," he said after appearing as a guest on a programme produced by the Bernama News Channel here today.
He said the road safety and awareness campaign would be continued with the cooperation of various agencies, including the police, RTD and expressway operators.
On the behests of the taxi associations that wanted Pakatan Harapan to abolish e-hailing services such as Grab, he said a dialogue session would be held with these associations, operators, taxi drivers and stakeholders to find the best mechanism to resolve the crisis.
"We cannot look at one side of the story. The views of all parties needed to be taken into consideration, not just the taxi drivers but the customers also need to get the best services.
"Indeed we all want changes but there are things we cannot do immediately," he said.
Malaysian Taxi, Limousine and Car Rental Operators and Drivers Association (Petekma) which represented 25,000 taxi drivers today reportedly urged the government to abolish the e-hailing services including Grab as they were allegedly affecting the income of conventional taxi drivers nationwide. — Bernama
