KUALA LUMPUR: Following the promise made by Nurul Izzah Anwar to bring the English rock band Radiohead to Malaysia if the Pakatan Harapan wins the 14th general election, netizens are now wondering when the pledge will be fullfilled.
The Permatang Pauh MP said the promise would be looked into after Ramadan to respect the sanctity of the fasting month besides giving way to other issues that needed more urgent attention.
"We have to follow the 'fiqh' (philosophy of Islamic law) of priorities based on the principle of priorities (in Islam). Ramadan is the month to seek merits. I will follow up after Ramadan.
"We (also need) to take care of the economy (Malaysia) first," she said when met after appearing as a guest on the 'Bicara Nine11' programme produced by Bernama News Channel here today
The eldest child of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she was committed to fulfill the promise she made five years ago.
She has also expressed that commitment on her Twitter account recently.
"Indeed. A promise is a promise #PostRamadanDiscussion. Now get on to work!," she said.
As of 6 pm today, the tweet received 3,800 retweets and over 4,100 likes.
Nurul Izzah said it would involve a lot of discussions, including certain prerequisites that should be taken into consideration to bring her favourite rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
"So of course, I will do my best. But subject to several things that needed to be taken into account," she added.
Formed in 1985, the Radiohead rock band is famous for songs like Creep, No Surprises, Karma Police, Exit Music, High and Dry as well as My Iron Lung.
The band consists of Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), brothers Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments) and Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals) and Philip Selway (drums, percussion). — Bernama
